Since the opening of the first store in Sarajevo's settlement Dobrinja in 2005, dm has grown into a network of 88 stores in 46 cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. Dm has become known for high standards and a wide assortment that includes everything from beauty products to natural cosmetics and organic food. However, in addition to selling products, dm stands out as a company that places great emphasis on sustainability and responsibility towards the community and the environment. One of the key steps towards reducing the company's negative impact on the environment is the introduction of detergent filling stations, an innovation that encourages customers to reuse packaging, reduces plastic consumption and actively contributes to the concept of circular economy.
As a company, dm is committed to operating in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and responsible treatment of natural resources. This implies that they continuously offer sustainable alternatives to their customers, partners and employees, in order to contribute to the ecological, social and economic development of the market as a community. The service of a self-service filling station for eco detergents is one of those steps. Five self-service stations have been installed in Banja Luka, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Bihać, and customers can pour the detergent exclusively into dedicated reusable bottles, which are made of 100% recycled plastic and sustainable raw materials, and a bottle purchased once can be used every subsequent time.
When asked how customers reacted to the introduction of bio detergent filling stations and whether their detergent buying habits have changed, and whether they plan to expand this concept to other cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, dm market representatives stated: "Despite the market situation when it comes to sustainable development and the general mistrust of citizens towards alternatives that contribute to community development, customers are indeed showing an increasing interest in the topic, especially in self-service filling stations for eco detergents. They are interested in their purpose and the advantages they offer when it comes to environmental protection. Of course, the topic as such offers a lot of space for development, so that customers can safely start changing habits that will contribute to the achievement of local but also of global sustainability goals. However, we at dm believe that, in continuous exchange with our customers, listening to their needs, we can make changes that will benefit also to the future generations. And in the years ahead, we continue to invest in processes, projects and products that offer our customers, partners and employees the opportunities to continuously make their daily lives more sustainable. In this regard, listening to the needs of the market, we will continue with the installation of self-service filling stations for eco detergents. The project as such is extremely complex and entails certain processes that require a lot of time, but our aspiration is that customers are able to take small steps towards big changes as soon as possible in accordance with the principles of sustainability."
As a leader in the drugstore sector in BiH, dm continuously proves its commitment to sustainable development and ecological principles. The removal of plastic bags from use, the promotion of products obtained through the 'upcycling' process and the implementation of filling stations for bio-detergents are just some of the examples through which dm demonstrates its commitment to the circular economy.
According to the dm representative: „One of the established habits of dm employees is the continuous waste separation at the workplace. We want to transfer this habit to our customers, so in more than 50% of dm stores across Bosnia and Herzegovina, boxes have been installed for separating four types of waste material: paper, plastic, glass and batteries. In the past business year alone, dm customers and employees together collected almost 600,000 kg of cardboard packaging waste. By offering dm brands in all 14 dm countries in which we operate, we guarantee unique quality. One of these is the no planet b product line, which were developed through so-called "upcycling" - a process in which new products are obtained from the remains of raw materials, such as fruits and vegetables, without creating waste. And that there is a trend of developing the need for natural cosmetics is also shown by the fact that dm brand alverde at its beginnings in 1989 offered only 14 natural products, while today this certified natural cosmetics consists of a wide range of products. It is really important to us that customers in all countries equally recognize and trust the quality and values that we cherish as a company, and this is shown by the fact that the sale of sustainable alternatives in the past year amounted to more than 40% compared to the year before."
With this approach, dm not only meets the needs of its customers for quality and ethical products, but actively shapes a better and more sustainable future for the entire community. This company therefore stands as an example of how business success and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand, making dm a true leader in sustainable business.
