The municipality of Prozor-Rama is located in the area of northern Herzegovina and stands out in BiH as a municipality that takes significant care of environmental protection, which is proven by the fact that Prozor-Rama is the municipality in BiH that sorts all collected waste. This extraordinary achievement was achieved through the Eco-park, a project that is unique in this area of the Balkans, and which aims to create a modern facility that will protect the environment and groundwater. The municipality of Prozor-Rama invested approximately 5 million KM in the construction of the Eco-park project, which created the conditions for the closure of the "Duška Kosa" landfill, which had been operating for more than 50 years, and the public utility company Vodograd Ltd Prozor Rama is in charge of managing this Eco-park.

It is a plant that consists of a sorting plant and a composting plant, as well as a waste water treatment plant, which is expected to start operating soon, which would make Prozor-Rama achieve its goal, respectively become a green municipality that will round off the story on smart waste management from sorting, composting and recycling. When asked what was the biggest motive for the development of the Eco-park in Prozor-Rama, representatives of PUC Vodograd point out: "Waste management has become one of the most important goals of modern society. One of the basic tasks in the waste management process is the process of sorting and recycling waste. By investing financial resources in the construction of appropriate plants for waste disposal and recycling, our municipality shows a developed level of ecological awareness for the purpose of protecting people and the environment. Most of the waste in the municipality of Prozor-Rama belongs to mixed communal waste. This mixed communal waste in its untreated form has little value, but the individual materials contained in the mixed communal waste have their value. In order to reduce the amount of final waste and obtain economic benefit from the useful share of waste, the process of sorting waste is approached. Waste sorting refers to the process of separating waste according to different types."

Also, as part of the Eco Park, a sorting plant was built for the collection and sorting of waste, with a capacity of 3 t/h, where eight types of waste are sorted: paper, cardboard, plastic, MET, PET, glass and metal, and organic/bio waste. This modern sorting plant has all robotic systems, and eight types of raw materials are obtained from mixed communal waste. In addition to the waste sorting plant, there is also a modern bioreaction composting plant in the Eco-park. From the PUC Vodograd they say on this compost plant: "Next to the waste sorting plant, a modern waste composting plant was built, where organic waste will be disposed of and, under special conditions and processes, compost will be obtained that will be further used in agriculture, floriculture... The composting plant itself is used to receive, process and pre-process biowaste and produce compost. I believe that with composted waste we will further contribute to the achievement of goals in waste management and increase the share of separate waste collection, respectively reduce the waste we dispose of in landfills."

bp32 The representatives of JKP Vodograd are of the opinion that in the whole process of recycling and waste management it is very important to raise the awareness of citizens about the importance of waste sorting, but also that they should be able to do this first, and they invest significant efforts to educate and involve the local community in these processes. For the process of sorting and reusing the usable part of the waste to be as efficient as possible, an important role is also played by the so-called "green islands". Green islands are clearly marked and accessible places where citizens can dispose of their everyday waste in special containers for separate collection of materials such as paper, plastic and glass, but for such procedures it is important to have awareness on ecology and nature protection. By conscientious behaviour, it is possible to contribute to a healthier and more beautiful environment, whether it is in larger cities or smaller places.

In addition to the above, when it comes to involving the local community in the processes of recycling and sustainable waste management, from PUC Vodograd they say: "In the coming period, PUC "Vodograd" will try to provide a sufficient number of tanks (containers) for separate collection of waste and thus ensure a higher level of purity of useful waste, and in addition to prevent the disposal of waste that according to its specifications should not be disposed of in tanks (containers ) such as construction waste, sawdust, waste tires, medical waste, waste oils, waste batteries and accumulators, electrical and electronic waste."

Long-term goals and plans for expanding the capacity of the Eco-park and introducing new technologies are based on monitoring trends, as well as the efficiency and economy of certain technologies. Eco-park still processes waste only from the Prozor-Rama area, but capacity expansion is very possible, and thus the need to take over waste from other municipalities. In 2023 alone, approximately 733 tons of biodegradable waste were processed, and approximately 60% of that was used. The remaining 40% of waste, such as textiles and multi-layer packaging, still fails to sell on the market.
